HomeMy WebLinkAboutMay 1961CIRCU~ATION RE~ORT - Y~Y - JUNE, 1961 Loth of the months of May and June have shown an increase in our circulation. In May, our total was 4,334. In June, we went to a.n unprecedented height of 5,093. ~Iay circulation was divided as follows: Adult circulation came to -,~ 091. Juvenile circulation amounted to: 3,243. June figures were divided llke this: 1,178 adult books and magazines. At the same time, children read 3,915 books and magazines. There was an increase of 87 in the adult department; while children read 672 additional books in June. To me, this is a very gratifying increase when one considers the tremendous competition which we have from other summer recreational activities and outdoor pastimes. Durir~5 the months of M~y and June, we have issued new library cards to 276 person~, in- cluding 74 adults and 206 children. The last two weeks before the close of school, approximately seven groups of children visited our library, made a tour of the points of interest, and finally sat down on the floor to listen to the librarian tell them a story. At that time, we took the opportunity to give out library card applications. These visits may account for a great many of the new patrons which we have acquired in these months. i have had requests from adults to establish ~ story hour as a reEular part of the libra~, routine. I am anxious to do this if I have the board's permission. Adults have also commented that they enjoy the information about new books which we have been giving to the paper at more or less regular intervals. Up to now, the information has been confined to lists of books only. However, if the board so desires, I should be glad to write book-notes or one long review for each time that the paper is willing to publish such material. In the summer, it is hard to pick any one day in the week as the busiest. However, Friday, I ?Dm~ltgve, has been the most consistently busy day. I think that Saturday mo~ning is tl:e least busy time during the summer months. We are never at a loss for somethin~ to do any t~ime during our week, however.
