HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 99-59~NOT READ~ RESOLUTION 99-$9 BEING A RESOLUTION OF THE COLUMBIA gEIGHTS CITY COUNCIL DENYING AN APPLICATION FOR A CURRENCY EXCHANGE LICENSE WF~-REAS, the President of Younge, Pot'm, Wiezer and Company, Inc. has submitted a license application to the State of Minnesota to operate a currency exchange business at 4110 Central Avenue NE in Columbia Heights; and, Wt!EREAS, Chapter 53A.04 of Minnesota State Statute requires that currency exchange license applications shall be submitted to the governing body of the local unit of government in which the applicant is proposing to be located; and, W!tF~REAS, a notice of the City's intention to consider the issue has been published in the May 6, 1999, edition of the Focus News; and, WI~REAS, the City has 60 days from April 16, 1999, to take action on the request; and, W!~REAS, the City Council has determined that a currency exchange is not the same as a bank, savings and loan, or other financial institution, and is not a permitted, conditional, or accessory use in the Central Business DisWict of the City; and, Wi~REAS, the Columbia Heights Zoning Ordinance is in the process of being rewritten, and the City Comprehensive Plan is in the process of being updated; and, WItEREAS, a market analysis will be conducted as part of the Master Redevelopment Plan for Downtown Columbia Heights which will provide the City with information on the market demand for additional expanded land uses including currency and other financial services in Columbia Heights; and, NOW, THlC. REFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Columbia Heights City Council that the application for a currency exchange license to operate at 4110 Centnl Avenue NE is hereby denied.
