Meeting called to order. Members present - Holm, Hosch, Knutson, Jul~owski.
Motion by Hosch, 2nd by Julkowski, that Dan DeMars be a~pointed Secretary pro
tam.
Resolution offered 6y Kuutson, 2nd by Julkowski, ~.~EREAS, it has come to the
attention of the City Council of the City of Columbia Heights that the Board of
County Commissioners of the Co~unty of Anoka are contemplating the expansion of
the County Sheriff's Department, and, WHEREAS; the expansion of this department
is necessitated and due to the fact that several villages within said County are
reluctant to form and maintain a police department to handle law enforcement
within their respective villages and thus creating a heavy responsibility upon
the Sheriff'~s department and, '~EREAS; the Cities of Anoka and Columbia Heights
and the Village of Fridley maintain police departments for the preservation of
law and order at a great exR~ense to the tax payers of their respective communities,
and WHEREAS; the Cities of Anoka and Columbia Heights to~ether with the Village
of Fridley have taxable valuations~f 60% of the County of Anoka and are there-
fore paying in the same proportion for ~the operation of the Sheriff's department,
and WHEREAS; it is evident from the above that the above named municip~alities
are subsidizing law enforeement in the various villages throughout the County
at a great expense to themselves, therefore be it RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of Columbia Heights as representatives of their constituents hereby
vigorously protest any expansion of the County Sheriff's department for the
purpose of extanding unjustified law enforcement to villages within the County who
do not maintain a police department, and be it further RESOLVED, that a copy of
the above resolution be forwarded to the Board of County Commissioners for the
County of Anoka. Roll Call - All Ayes
