AdjOUrned meeting of the City Council of the CitY of Colum-
bia'Heights; held at the high school Building on Monday evening,
September'lg. Called to order at' 8:30 o'clock ~y Mayor Foste'~,
with all members present and answering roll call.
The first reading of Ordin~nce I~o. $9--an Ordinance to
V~c~te znd Discontinue p~rt of zn Alley ru~ing Northeast~er!y
~nd Southwesterly between Lot ~e (!) in Block One ~l) In Re-~r-
r~ngement of Lots Thirty-three (~) and Thirty-four (~%) in Block
Six (6)' in Rose,cSt Hills ~nd Lots Forty-eight (48) Forty-nine
Upon request of property interested in Forty-second Avenue
i~provement project for info~tion as to wh~t h~d been done s~nee
the l~st meeting, City ~n~ger Anderson told them that .the quit
cl~. deeds were re~dy for owners' sign~tures ~nd the co~ittee
could h~ve them by c~lling ~t his office.
The Budget for the~coming year w~s e~l~ined by the Cit'Y
~neger and there were v~riohs suggestions by citizenB who Were.
present. Action was postponed until the next meeting of the
city c cunt il. ..
A resolution was of'feted by Karrow, who moved' its adopt~ioy, t
that the Columbia l~ati'0na! Bank be' designated as the city deposi-
tory'. This was seconded by Dahl and carried by a vote of all
ayes.
The improvement of the alley in the block surrounded by
37th and 39th Avenues s~ud Quincy and Jackson street was brought
up for d~iscussion ~nd upon offering of resolution by Dahl, who
moved its adoption, seconded by Gillette, and carried by a vote
of ~ll' ayes, the city' manager was instructed to advertise for
bids on this work.
.... The z~atter of gasoline filling stations was discussed ~n~
the City man~ger instructed to investigate license charges Lu the
neighboring cities and make report to council at next meetinE.
Daht brought up the subject of ~ayor Foster's discharging
Officer French as a member of the police force and~made ~ m~tion
that "the city cotmcil go on record as beinE in favor of the
instatement of ~r. F~cnch." This motion was lost through f~ilure
to get a second and Judge Leonard Keyes spoke ~t length on his
opinion of the l~ayor' s action.
It was moved by Deutsch and seconded by Karrow that the meet-
ing adjourn--carried by a vote of all ayes.
