~[otion by Yencho seconded by Trench that the Columbia Heights Fire
Dept. be granted tLe permit for a festival, with the ttnderstanding
that only rides, eat lug stands and certain types of lcc al concessions
wo._~ld be operated. Roll call- all ayes.
~en representin~ several Columbia Hei~-~ts plumbin~ firms were present
and asked an ordinance be passed requiring plumber,s licenses be issued
only to plumbers who set up a shop, maintain a stock and maintain a
telephone in Columbia Heights. The council agreed to hold a meeting
before ~ay l0 between the city engineer, plumbing inspector, representa-
tives of the council and city plumbinm firms, and possibly of representa-
tives of the city electrical firms. The co ncil also agreed to hold up
issuance of any more plumbing or electrical licenses until a report of
said meeting had been made to the council.
Mr. i!oye was present and requested the' alley 0etweea Reservoir Blvd,
and Taylor St., between 3~th and AOth 'Aves., ~.~e fixed for proper
draina~e and brought down to proper ~rade level, h'e was a~vised

Mrs. Wermerskirchen was present reoardin6 ~er claim for damages,
which claim had been presented before ~t the council meetin~ of
12, 1949. The council a~reed ~o inspect her property before ~ay
a~d agree on damages, i£ any~, due her.'

Ave., from Reservoir to Bti~so~ Blvd., as recommended by the city

Motion by Trench ascended by Yencho to accept the COmmonwealth
Electric Co~pany's bid for installation of a~,tomatic traffic stjcaAs
at the intersection of Ce.,~tral and 4Oth Aves. ~olt call - all ayes.
It became necessary for Mr. Yencho to leave the ~etin~ to attend to
other ~.~atters at this time, and he was e'~cused.
A request was made that the council meeting scheduled for ~ay
1949, ce set ahead one day in order not to conflict wit2~ other activity
in the fieldlaouse that evening. The co-~ncil advised it would consider
tois request at its following meeting.
First reading of 0rdinance~/ being an $rdinance vacati~ the
south ~feet of Peters place commencing at the Northeast Corner ol~
Lot 1,~xtending to the southwest corner of Lot 4, Block 3, re-
arrangement of Lots ZZ and ~, Block O, Columbia Heights, Anoka
County, Ninnesota.
First reading of ~0rdinance~'~/being an ordinance authorizing t he
sale by the city of Columbia Heights of certain real estate known
as that part of Peters Place heretofore vacated and lying east of
the extension of the south boundary line of Lot one, Block ~hree,
rearrangement of Lots ~3 and ~4, Block 8, Columbia Heights, Anoka
County, ~innesota, except ~he easterly three feet t~ereof, reserving
to the grantor a perpetual easement and right to enter upon said
tract to use, operate, repair a~d o~herwise maintain the water main
and water hydrant ~pon the easterly l~. feet of said tract of land,
according to the map or plat thereof on file and of record in the
office of the register ~-~fdeeds in and for Anoka County, ~innesota.
A letter from Roy Bentzen, Sr., 4347 6th St., was read, co:~p!aining
of the fact that the sewer by' his property is too high for him
to properly connect to, and also complaining of the fact that his
stop box had act been repaired as pro~i~ed by the city. He whs
advised tt~e stop box would be repaired and the correction of his
sewer wot~ld have to be taken care of by the contractor.
The council agreed to 'have the city manager send a communication
to (1) the ~innesota Linseed Oil Co., advising, that its fire
protection there has expired; and (2) to the fire chief, advising
that ,the ~[innesota Linseed 0il Co. contract has exp'red and he is
no longer responsible for fire protection t2uere.

A letter from the Minnesota Safety Council was read, which letter
sta~ed the city had won a place on the National Traffic Safety
Contest,s Honor Roll and would receive a certificate for same.
The council agreed that a presentation of the Certificate would be
made at the next meetin6 of the Commercial Club.
A letter from the Minnesota Safe~y Council, advising t ~hat its
Governor, s Award Presentation Dinner would be held ~ay 17~ 1949, was
read.
It was agreed that on Election Day Councilmen Trench, Weldon and

Motion by Nygaard seconded by Trench to place on file a ~etition

Ave., between Central Ave. and Reservoir Blvd. and a letter from
Mr. Bridell regarding said petition.
