A letter was read from the Smith, Dunn Company, expressing their willingness to demonstrate the Wayne Motor Sweeper to the city. It was agreed to hold over the request for election judges until April 26, 1949. The Plant Industry Council in Anoka, on April 18, 1949, and the possibility of a campaign for weed and insect eradication was discussed. Second reading of Ordinance 249, being an ordinance authorizing the sale by the City of Columbia Heights of certain real estate known as Lots I & 2, Block 2, Second Subdivision of Block Columbia Heights Annex to Minneapolis. Ordinance No. 249 offer- ed by Nygaard seconded by Trench. Roll Call - All Ayes. Resolution offered by Trench seconded by Weldon, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBIA HEIGHTS, WHEREAS, the Minneapolis Street Railway Company and its affiliate corporations own and maintain street car tracks Within the City of Columbia Heights, and ~WHEREAS, the said company has permitted said tracks and road beds covered by them to become hazardous to other traffic on said streets, in that, said tracks are below the general surface of the main travelled roads, and in that, the surface between the rails and immediately adjacent thereto, has become broken, uneven and in a generally condition hazardous to other traffic. NOW, BE IT, THE.~EFORE, HESOLVED, That pursuant to Section 220.09, Minnesota Statutes, said Minneapolis Street Rail- way Company and its affiliate corporations are hereby ordered and directed to take immediate steps to realign and elevate the rails to conform to the adjacent surface of the travelled portion of any streets whereon such rails are laid, and to provide sufficient blocking and ballast for the tracks of such nature that the continuous settling of rail Joints and the therefore necessary continuous repairs and d!sturbance of adjacent surfacing can be eliminated. IT IS FURTHER RESOLVED, That ~id Minneapolis Street Railway Company and its affiliate corporations provide surfacing of the area occupied by the rail ties of a type corresponding to present surfaces of the remainder of said roads; and complying with requirements of the State of Minnesota as to streets that are designated as State Highways. passed this 12th day of April, 1949. The plumbing inspector was not present, and it v~as agreed that he v~ould be summoned to a future meeting and the Ylu~man Co. ~ould be .,o~fied of such date, ond the matter ~ould be discussed then.
