Several citizens and a representative of the Minneapolis Gas Co. were present, and .ccm,p~ ained of the fact that gas could not be made available to, residents on 6th St., from 40th to ~Oth Aves., because of the refusal o~~ Mrs. Szyperski to allow the necessary main to pass through a portion of her property. · Motion by Yencho seconded by Trench that the matter be turned over to the city manager, and that he be emp~owred to take wkatever steps are required to acq'ire the 30 feet of property necessary for passage or,he main; and that he be empowered to offer up to $100.00 for purchase of said property, after which, if necessary, Condemnation proceedings can be begu~n. Roll call - all ayes. Motion by Lange seconded by Trench that no advertisements be made until October, 1949, for bids for the construction of sewers in the Hilltop area. Roll call - all ayes. Motion by Trench seconded by Lange that the mayor instruct the chief of police to deputize the necessary number of firemen needed to police the grounds at the Columbia Heights Festival. The council advised that it would be necessary for the Lnstitute to first find and propose suitable locations for the deposit holes, before any such agreement would ce considered by the counc il. Er. Heglund of-R. D. Thomas and Associates reported on the tabulation bids, for furnishing a centrifugal water pump to the City of Columbia Heights. ~otion by Lange seconded by Trench to accept t~e alternate bid of Fairbanks Morse & Co. Mr. John Smith was present and requested he be granted licenses to sell beer at 838-~0th Ave. Motion by Lange seconded by Trench that the matter be tabled, and be brought up again at the next council meeting. Mot ion by Yencho seconded by Trench to grant the following applications: (1) By Northern States Power Co.., for installation of one pole and street light on Reservoir Blvd. a~nd 43rd Ave.; (2) Application by Minneapolis Gas Co. to install 4-inch main on Mill St., from 850' E.E. line Bth St., to #~21, Lot 3l, Block 66, Columbia Heights Annex; and (3) Application by Nortr~western Bell Telephone Co. to place one anchor on the north side of $1st Ave., at the alley west of ~th St.; one anchor on the south side of 42nd Ave., west of Sth St.; two achors in the alley west of 5th St., between 49th and BOth Aves.; and three poles on the north side of 49th Ave., between 4th and 8th Sts. Roll call - all ayes. Motion by Lange seconded by Yencho to issue check for $100 in payment of the purchase by the City of Columbia Heights of the west 30 feet of Lot l, Block 2, Columbia Heights Acres, for public roadway purposes. Roll call - all ayes. A petition was read, signed by three residents in the Walton Rearrangement' of Lots ~3 & 34, requesting the city to grade and install a water main on that part of Peters place wLich would be availsble for use to Lots No. 12, l~, l~, 15, 16 and 17 in Walton, s Rearrangement of Lots ~3 & 34. Motion oy Trench seconded by Spekulant to turn the petition over to the city manager to take its regular course. Roll call - all ayes, Roll Motion by Lange seconded by Trench to grant the application of Gage-Reeves Co. for a heating license and an electrical license. call - all ayes. Mr. Joseph Kowal, 1208-4~th Ave., was present and inquired when sewers would be installed on 4~th Ave, for use b~ the residents in that area. He was advised installation would be made this year. A letter was received from Henry ghanedling, s Sons Corp., requesting a permit for twelve bowling alleys to be installed in a building to be built at Gould and Central Aves., at the former site of the Community Methodist Church. Notion by Lance seconded by Trench that the above bo~ting alley permit be issued to the above party at such time as he makes application for a building permit at the above address. Roll call - all ayes. Th~ mayor recommended the appointment o'r' .~r. Spekulant to the Library Board. Motion by Trench seconded by Yencho to concur with the mayor's re.~o.v~nendation. Roll call - all ayes. A bill from Mr. Dunemann was received by the council, for the replacement of glasses broken while the above party was performing work for the City of Columbia Hei~?~ts. ~o action was taken on the above matter.
