Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. ~r, Sheridan representing the ~.~ FO~.J~gm~, asked if it would be possible to acquire the point on 37th and Central Avenue for a Memorial park and he was informed this would be taken up with our attorney to see what could be done. .Yack Niles was present and turned over to the Council Correspondence regarding a swimming pool, which he had in his possession as he is leaving Columbia Heights, stating he.hoped this would materialize in the near future. Several complaints were received from residents on 37th and 38th Avenues regarding un-sanitary conditions, also reguesting that alleys 'oe fixed and graded. The City Manager stated he would take care of ~hese complaints as soon as possible. Uomplaints were received regarding the Universal ~achinery Co. storing material on residential property. ~otion by Trench seconded by yencho, to grant Electrical Licenses to the following: ~m. Dymanyk, 1V18 Jefferson St; !~.E. A & A Electric, 3718 cedar Ave. Roll Call - Ail Ayes. Motion by Trench seconded by Nygaard, to grant pin Ball License to Joe Korbas, 840-40th Ave. Roll Call - Ail Ayes. ~o~ion by Nygaard seconded by Trench, that the following petitions be turned over to the City ~anager and take ~heir regular course: Sidewall: on Polk Street between 37 and 39th Avenues Sanitary Sewer on Madison between 42nd and 43rd Avenues. sidewalk on both sides of 5th Street between 50th and 51st Avenues. Sidewalk on west side of 5th Street in 4900 block. Sanitary Sewer on Johnson street north of 39th Avenue~ Sanitary Sewer on 6th Street between 50th and 5!st Avenues. First reading of ordinance No. 234, being an ordinance auDhomizing the sale by the City of Columbia Heights of certain Real Estate known as Lot 4, Block 4, Second Subdivision of Block "F" Columbia Heights Annex to Minneapolis. First reading of Ordinance No.235, being an ordinance vacatir~the East West Alley in Block 57, Columbia Heights Annex to l~innea~olls. ~otion by Trench seconded by Nygaard, to reimburse James ~e~den $12.00 for clothing lost in fire at Liquor store, also John Roach $10.00 for three shirts, settlement in fulI. Roll Call - All Ayes. A Bid was received from the M.W. Equipment Co. for refrigeration at Liquor Store and this was referred to the Liquor Committee. Bids were received from the following on Sidewalks, Curb & Gutter: Arnold Beckman Co. Geo. Hadsen, R.S. Billingsley Co. Victor Carlson & Sons Motion bY Nygaard seconded by Trench, that bid be given Victor Carlson & Sons. Roll Call - All Ayes. Notion by Trench seconded by Yencho, that ~e~es~-e~ Vern Palmer, 48 21 - 7th Street be granted permission to connect to City Water ~ain. Roll Call - All Ayes. ~otion by Nygaard seconded by Trench to grant the Ninneapolis Gas bight Co. permission to extend the Gas main on ReservOir Blvd. Roll Call - All Ayes. Notion by Nygaard seconded by T~ench, that communication from Morthern States power Co. informing us of the change in lamps, be placed on file. Roll Call - All Ayes. ~. Wilkinson was informed that street grading would be started as s88nu as possible at'~illtop addition. Notion by Nygaard s~conded by yencho, to grant a permit to the Civic Improvement ~ssoc.to operate a Bingo StaBd at the Summer Festival. Roll Call - All Ayes. ~otion by yencho seconded by Trench, that the letters received from Police Chief, Walter Cottrell, regarding enactment of ordinances concerning registering of Felons, also Guns and Firearms, be referred to our City Attorney. A letter was received from the Police Civi~ Service Commission regarding police examination, also wages of beginners and a meeting was set for ~ o,clock Thursday~Nay 1Z~ with the City Council. Discussion regarding lease of Post 0ff~ce and City Eanager was authorized to negotiate for a new lease. ~otion by Trench seconded by Yencho, t° allow H.H. Nawrocki, ~987 Quincy St. N.E. $10.00 over-payment on Job No.l~7. Roll Call - All Ayes. Sidewalk Resolution offered by Trench'seconded by Yencho, The~City Council of the City of Columbia Heights here~y resolves that WHEREAS, there has been found to be a definite need for a traffic signal at the inter- section of Central Avenue (TH #80) and gOth Avenue N.E.;and WHEREAS the State Highway department has consented to defray part of the ~ost of such installation BE IT THEREFORE RES0~ZED that the City ~anager be and he is hereby authorized to arrange with the State Highway Department for the installation of such signals. Roll Ca!1 - Nygaard, Weldon, Yencho and Trench. Soderholm absent. Trench acted as Chairman. A large group or. tax-payers were present and a discussion on taxes took-place. Anyone who wanted their taxes checked were asked to leave their names with the Secretary and th~se would be turned Over to the Assessor and later taken up with the equalization Board.
