Regular Meeting
Meeting called to order at $:20 P.M. All members present.
Minutes of the last regular meeting were read and approved.
Motion by Nygaard seconded by Weldon, that the petition brought in
by F.E. Dunn, regarding the street conditions on Jefferson between
43rd and 44th Ave., be turned over to t~ae City Manager and proper
steps taken. Roll Call - All Ayes.
Residents on Tyler Street between 39th and 40th Ave. complaining of
the sidewalk being too high, were informed the ~ouncil would meet
wi~h them Monday night August 18th and cote to a decision at that
time.
Several parties were in regarding renewals of permits to park Trailers
in the city. Motion by Weldon seconded by Trench to set this aside
until the nex~ meeting and the Chief of Police be advised to make a
list of all trai~ers parked in the city. Roll Call - All Ayes.
Interested parties were informed that requeAt for bids for Water mains~
on 3rd street and Benjamin Street would be advertised in this weeks
paper.
Motion by Weldon seconded by Nygaard, that permission be granted to
M.A. Milton, 4~2~ Arthur St. ~o park a Trailer at this address for
60 days. Roll Call - All Ayes.
Motion by Yencho seconded by Trench, that City Manager be instructed
to che~k on all Water Hydrants and see that they are fixed. Roll
Call - All Ayes.
Motion by Nygaard seconded by Weldon, that the application for Rest-
aurant and On and Off-sale Bee r License^take their regular course.

Motion by Nygaard seconded~by Weldon, that the Electrical License be
granted to the Suburban Elec. Co., 3008 Emerson Ave. So., Minneapolis,
subject to the approval of the Electrical Inspector. Roll Call -
All Ayes.
Resolution offered by Weldon seconded by Nygaard, WHEREAS, the cost of
living ~ndexhas continued to rise and WHEREAS certain employes of the
City of Columbia Heights have not received a wage increase comparative
therewith, NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City
of Columbia Heights that, All Street maintainance employes employed on
an hourly basis shall be paid not less that $1.10 per hour, the same to
be effective as of July 20, 19~ Roll Call - All Ayes.
Motio$ by Weldon seconded by Trench, that a letter be written to the
State Highway Department, requesting improvements on Central Avenue
between ~th and 4§th as recommended by City Manager, and the widening
of Highway from ~th to Nc.lO, also that a committee of two be
appointed by the Mayor to present the matter to the Commission.

l~th received from our Chief of Police be placed on file. Roll Cai1 -

Motion by Yencho seconded by Weldon, that a letter be written to W.E.
Cottrell, Chief of Police, asking for recommendations on Bus route
as complained of in his letter of August 12th. Roll call - All Ayes.
Bi~s were opened ar~l received from the following for renting of
Bowling Alleys:
Leo schmeltzer - $1200.00 for 8 months.
G.M. Hartlage, 8231 Lyndale Ave. No.,Mpls., - $1240.00 for 8 Mo.
Dan DeMars, Columbia Heights - $~60.00 per month for 9 months
each year and a 5 year lease.
Motion by Nygaard seconded by yencho, that these bids be taken under
advisement. Roll Call - Ail Ayes.
Motion by Weldon seconded by Yencho, that an 0fl-sale Liquor Store
be established at 40§0 Central Ave., and the City Manager be instructed
to enter into a lease for said premises fo~ a perioA of two years at
a rental of $70.00 per month. Roll Call - Ail Ayes.
Motion by Trench seconded by Yencho, that the Contract for Garbage
Collection be re-hewed until May lat, 1948 with W. Gallagher & Sons.
