Regular Meeting
December 30, 1946
Meeting was called to order at 8:05 P.M. Ali members present.
.%/ Resolution offered by Spekulant and seconded by Weldon,' WHEREAS, The
City of Columbia Heights, did on the ~Tth day of December, 1946 conduct
and hold a Special General Election: and, WKEREAS, the City Council of
the City of Columbia Heights did on the 30th day of DeCember, 1946, hold a
regular meeting, and did canvass the returns of said special general
election; and, Whereas, the. gollowing results were determined by said
canvass of said special general election, to-wit:

Now, Therefore, BE IT RES0~VED by the City Council of the City of
Columbia Heights, that the following candidate, H.E:Soderholm, be and
he hereby is declared to be elected for the office of Mayor.
BE IT FURTR~ER RESOLVED that the Charter Amendment, carrying the vote
as above stated, being a three-fifths majority, is here~y declared
carried. Roll Call - All Ayes.
H.E. Soderholm ~ook the oath of office at this time and ~ssumed the
ch~ir as Mayor.
A letter was received from Geo. E. Smiley,.~Commander Post #230 Veterans
of Foreign Wars, regarding their political views. Notion was made by
Spekulant and seconded by Nygaard that this communication be placed on
file. Roll Call - All Ayes.
Mr. Wilkinson of the Wilkinson Home Finance Corp. was ~res~nt at this
meeting and went offer with the Council in'detail the matter of annexing
20 acres to Columbia Heights, this to be platted into 427 lots and building
of 150 homes to be started this spring if'se~and water and other improve-
ments could be made available. Er. Nordin was present and spoke in
favor of this developement as he thought it would be an asset to
Columbia Heights. This will be discussed further at a special
meeting on Tuesday January Vth, 194V. at 8 o,clock P.M.
Motion was made by Nygaard and seconded by Jackson to place the letter
on file received from the [inneapolis Gas Light Company, regarding
gas heating. Roll Call - All Ayes.
Resolution offered by Jackson and seconded by Nygaard, RES0~VED that
we hereby designate the First National Ban~ of Minneapolis and the
Columbia Heights State Bank of Columbia Heights, Minnesota, as a
depository for moneys of this city for a period of one year, beginning
the 1st day of January, 1947, and the Treasurer of this City is hereby
directed to deposit moneys of this city in s~d banks; and the said
First National Bank of Ninnespolis and the Columbia Heights State Bank
of Columbia Heights is hereby authorized and directed to honor and pay
any checks or orders, when signed by the Treasurer, for the withdrawal
or transfer of funds on deposit in said Banks in whatever form. ,
BE IT Fb~THER RESOLVED, That in case such deposits shall at any time
exceed Five Thousand (~5,000.00) Dollars, said depository shall immediately
furnish bond of securities in lieu of bond according to law, and the
Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, Minnesota, is hereby designated
as a place for the safekeeping of all securities furnished in lieu of
such bond. This is to f~rther certify that Hazel Trucker is the Duly
chosen and qualified Treasurer of the above city. Roll Call - All Ayes.
Bids for Workmen,s Compensation Insurance for the city were received

$1200.00 from the LiQuor Fund to the Building Fund, to pay for Lots 5 and
6, Block 91; and that ther~ are sufficient moneys in said Liquor Fund to

Special Neeting January O, 1947
Neet ing ~was called to order at 8 o'clock p.~. All Members present.
A large number of citizens and interested.people were present at this
meeting ~to discuss the ~-pl~tt~in~ .of HilltoD.~Gulf Cbdrs~ ~ ~ ~, which
was~ purchased by the ~¥ilkinson Home Finance Corp. of ~innea~olis, and which wa~
pl~tted into 4~7 lots. If water, sewer and street improvements could
be made ~available, the building of a number of homes would be started
this spring. There were many wh~ talked .for this project and some
against .~it, but no decision was reached at this time. The ~.~ayor,
H.E. Soderholm, agreed to give a definite ~answer next Tuesday at our
regular meeting.
Representatives from the Volunteer Firemen~ organization and also the
Civil Service Commission were present at this meeting in an e~fort to
get their difficulties straiSatened out. It was decided that the
Volunteer Firemen appoint a committee to meet with the Civil Service
Commissidn and our City Attorney, and draw up an ordinance so that
they will have the proper protection.
