Special meeting~caIled to order January l?th, 1935, at the City Offices at 8 P.M.
All members present.
Meeting called to order for the purpose of considering Emergency Bonds Issue, for
bu~ing snow plow and equipment snd for street maintenance, and any other business
which mdght come before the meeting.
Letter eaad from the S.E.R.A. with reference to snow removal with SEI{AFUnds. The
letter stated that it could not be done.
Resolution offered by Karrow, seconded by Miller,
Whereas Schock Parlor Fr~ie Company is willing to settle the delinquent taxes,
providing the City of Columbia Heights will waive penalties and interest for year
1933, now therefore be it Resolved by ~he City of Columbia Heights, that the County
Auditor is hereby directed to cancel penalties and interest for 1933 taxes only,
and the others be collected as provided by law, and. Be it Further Resolved that
a copy of this resolution by forwarded to the County Auditor. Roll call, all
ayes. a

After much discussion, a resolution was offered by EaxxBassett, seconded by Miller,
to accept the bid of Borchert Ingersoll Company for tractor and plow in the amount
of $~500~ ~Roll call, all ayes.
Motion by Tjosvold, seconded by Bassett, that the bids be printed in the official
newsp~oer, as a news item. Roll call, all ss'es.

sale by the City Treasurer of $$500. ~mergency Debt Certificate, offered by Karrow,

Whereas the City Treasurer has tLis day- been duly autLorized to sell $3500. Emergency
Debt Certificate, to be dated the l?th ds~¢ of January, 19S5, tc bear interest at the
rate of Six oer cent oer annum, payable at the maturity of said certi~icate, and both
principal and interest to become due and payable on the lgth day of January, 19S6, and
Whereas, there is sufficient money in the Sink. i~.~g Fzuud to tske care of the demands
thereon, and it is desirable and beneficial to the City of Columbia Heights, Minnesota
to invest moneys in the Sinking Fund in said Fm~ergency Debt Certificate.
Now therefore be it Resolved by the City Council of the City of Columbia Heights, that
$~500. ~ of the Sinking Fund be invested in ~aid Emergency Debt Certificate. Uoon
the r, aturity of said Certificate the ~nount thereof ~nd interest is to be returned forth-
with to the Sinking Ekzud,
Further Resolved that the City Treasurer be and she hereby is authorized and directed to
ma.ko the necessary Xx investment in accordance with this ResOlution. Roll call, all

Upon motion duly ~ade by Bassett, seconded by Tjosvold, the following resolution is
adooted at a Soecial I~ieeting of the C.~y C,~m'.cil :~f the
~ty of Columbia Heights, I~iinn.

Whereas there is now pending adoption before the Congress of the United States, cert.~i~
social legislation, co:,~nonly ]~_nown a'.; the To;vnse'.~d Pension Plan and designed as a measu[e
to eliminate a large oart of our economic difficulties, and
Whereas, such legislation proposes as a means in trust to pa$~ to all citizens of the
Unite~ States over the a?ze of sixty the s~om of two hundred do~.lars each calendar month
whose life has been free from crime aha who will agree to retire from active business
or employment, and soend it in thirty days of the receip~ of the s~me, within the con-
fines of the United Stazes; acting as a medi=m by which unemployment will be eliminated
buying power increased and f?eatly stimulating business generally over the entire country
said disbursing f~3mds to be raised by a general sales tax, and
Whereas i~ablic Sentiment, from all indications, within this City is overwhelmingly in
favor of the proposed legislation, various delectations urging its adootion and this
memorial resolution.
Therefore Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Columbia Heights, Minnesota,
that we urge support, to and i:~:uediate adoption of the oroposed Pension Plan, req]~esting
that no a~i~ or suooort be given to any substitute, not an imorovement to the Townsend
Theor and that we urge the oeoole of Columbia Heights to reject any w-~,ber in Congress
from Minnesota within their jurisdiction, who shall refuse aid snd. their cooperation
to do everything wit~_in their oower to secure the passF.~.e of the orooosed legisltion
at this session of Congress, and
