Budget Informational Meeting
September 29, 1981
The budget meeting was called to order' by the Mayor at 8:07 pm.
Roll call: Heintz, Norberg, Hentges, Nawrocki--present It was noted that Councilman
Logacz would be at the meeting at 9:10.
The purpose of this special meeting is to give all interested citizens an opportunity to
see how City revenues are proposed to be used and provide the services required and expect-
ed of the City employees and City Council by the taxpayers of the community.
The City Manager gave the specifics of the proposed budget and mentioned the major elements
of consideration. In the last few months the City Council has had several work sessions
with department heads, staff and the City Manager to discuss the proposed budget. The
Finance Director also spoke to some of the specifics in the proposed budget. There was
considerable discussion among the council members and the staff with respect to items
that could be reviewed.
Councilman Logacz arrived at the meeting at 9:20 pm.
Discussion continued regarding the changes that have occurred on the state and federal
level that will impact on the financial condition of municipalities. It was noted that
the City Council of Columbia Heights have been fiscally responsible so that these changes
will not have a negative effect on the City, but that this is not true in the case of some
other cities. Investments and interest, earned by the City were discussed and the Finance
Director was commended for prudent procedures. Councilman Hentges gave a number of sug-
gestions where items could be evaluated and perhaps taken out of the proposed budget.
The Mayor felt there was more information on the budget that the City Manager could
supply and would like it by the next scheduled budget meeting.
The Mayor adjourned the meeting at l O:O0 pm until Monday, Octob~-~th. ~t// /
