They recommended payment of the claim for injury to Mr. Volkman for the period of time during which he was unable to respond to fire calls. The City Manager has met with the City Attorney and they feel that the claim doesn't fit the definition of disability because it was not a total disability since Mr. Volkman was able to perform on his full time job. The City Manager stated he would like to have a decision on the claim as submitted on behalf of Ralph Volkman and also give the volunteers present an opportunity to be heard regarding optional disability clauses they may have a preference for. The City Attorney stated that his decision to reject the claim was based on the definition of disability for the purposes of a benefit which he read to the Council. Mr. Volkman's work for the City of Fridley takes him out of the definition of disability and makes him ineligible for benefits. Motion by Hentges, seconded by Norberg, to deny the request for compensation based on the recommendation of the City Manager and City Attorney. Roll Call: All Ayes The volunteers asked the Board of Trustees for a clear definition of their right to make claim so the volunteers will know where they stand if they get injured.
