The May~r presented what is being done in Flint, Michigan where the residents must place plastic bags in their cans. These bags are bought by the city and distributed to the residents in rolls. One gentiemen present asked if the city could buy their own trucks and do the work but this is a very expensive operation and it seems to work out better if we contract with a hauler. The Mayor stated that a law was passed by the 1969 Legislature making it illegal to burn rubbish in back yards. The Council decided to consider the contract including a provision making the service mandatory to all persons and a decision made at another time. Complaints were raised about a dust problem on Grand Street from 38th to 39th where trucks are hauling rocks and pieces of curbing from 40th Avenue, and the Mayor reported the junk trucks and debris that was ordered to be removed some time ago are still standing in the area.
