April 29, 1969
The meeting was called ~ order at 8:00 p.m.
Jeska, Logacz, Nawrocki - present.
Roll Call - Land, King,
This hearing was held in the Columbia Junior High School Auditorium on
41st and Jackson Street in anticipation of a large attendance. Approximately
700 persons were present.
The purpose of this hearing was to review the water main system in
Columbia Heights and answer any questions citizens had regarding the
H.U.D. water main project before a final decision was reached by the
City Council to go through with the plans. Earl Gustafson, Assistant
City Engineer, outlined the needs for the water mains and presented maps
to show the citizens the ages of the present lines and where the new
ones would be put in. The City Manager answered questions on the
assessments to be levied for the mains and the availability of federal
funds to pay ~ the cost for the improvements. Many questions were
raised as to the need for such a project and if when it was finished
it would solve all our problems (fire protection, sprinkling bans,
etc.) A few citizens objected to the cost, however, most felt there
was a need for this improvement and complimented the Engineering Department
on the fine job they did in presenting the project.
A resolution ordering improvements was offered by King, seconded by Land,
