W_HEREA.S, the best hope for the future.~of any C-ommuni~tY rests with~ its young people; and WHEREAS, it is important that each young person in this community be afforded the opportunity to develop to the full extent of his individual potential capabilities; and WHEREAS, it is our Obligation as citizens of the United States of American and the City of Columbia Heights to make every reas®nable effort to provide our children with the best possible opportunities so that they will have a chance to develop to their full potential; and ~{EREAS, we have the resources and the in~entive to give our children advantages that are greater than at any time in our history; and WHEREAS, the observance of a special week emphasizing the youth of our Country and our community, serves effectively to underscore these goals: N~, THEREFORE, I, Bruce G. Nawrocki, Mayor of the City of Columbia Heights, do hereby designate the period from January 29th through February 4th, 1967, as YOUTH WEEK, 1967; and I invite all persons and all agencies and organ- izations in the City of Columbia Heights interested in the welfare of our youth to unite during that week in observance that will bolster our efforts to foster their growth into full participants in our society. Motion by King seconded by Land, that this petition be placed on file, and inquire from the Park Department as to the use of this rink at this time, and also write a letter to the circulator of this petition and inform them as to the reason why this warming house cannot be built. The City Manager reported a letter was received from the Police Chief, asking that the fee for a police officer working at a dance, be raised from $10 to $15. The city Manager reminded the council that there is a meeting on Tuesday evening, January 24th, with the Industrial-Commercial Planning Committee. The Anoka County Association of Municipalities will :neet January 2$th at 8 p.m. at the Village of Lexington. The City Engineer reported most alleys in Columbia Heights arb in a bad- icy._condition, and will -try to remedy this if at all'possible. Mr. Brown reD~rted he and Mr. Orendorff met with The'School Board and Highway Department on January 19th, to diScuss a P~est~ian. Crossing at 51st and' Highway ~'~47', which has been requested by Fridley c0u~Cilmen and residents in that area. The City Attorney. reported that according ~o our ordinance, Cars canmot be parked on,boulevards. A discussion took place'regardihg car~.parked in. streets and boulevards.
