Special Meeting May 16, 1966
Meeting called to order at 8:08 p.m. Roll Call: Land, King, Nawrocki,
Jeska, Orendorff - present ~
Mr. Kurpius, Traffic Engineer, Minnesota Highway Department was present
and discussed the revised contract for school signals at 51st and Univer-
sity, and asked for the council's approval. Action on this held over
to May 23, 1966.
Minnesota Highway Department has asked for Columbia Heights concurrence
in award of bid on Highway ~47 contract to Barton Contracting Co., in
the amount of $1,315,162.16. Action on this held over to 5/23/66.
Hearings on Street re-construction. The City Manager gave a review of
when the various streets had been surfaced and explained what will be
done on Heights Drive and that the cost would not be more than on any
other street. The Engineer gave an estimated cost on street
re-construction of $3.30 a front foot, and $1.10 Avenue charge.
The following streets were discussed:
41st Avenue, 4-5; 6-7 and Washington-Monroe
2nd Street 40th to 4~nd
Monroe Street 40-41
Madison Street 41-42
Quincy Street 40th So. to end
- - 37-39
VanBuren Street,
Heights Drive
Golf Place
Upland Crest
Ivanhoe Place

The people present gave their views as to whether they wanted their
street fixed where they lived, and also the problems on various streets
were discussed and they were assured ~very effort would be made to put
the streets in good condition again.
Motion by King seconded by Land, that the city Manager be authorized to
proceed with re-construction of streets as follows~ for 1966 cobstruction~
41st Avenue, 4-5, 6-7 and Washington-Monroe
Monroe Street, 40-41
Madison Street, 41-42
Quincy Street, 40th south to end
,, ,, 37-39
VanBuren Street, 37-39
Inquiry was made as to alley in Hilltop, Block 3, which was not put in
properly and they were~told that Belmar Bldrs. have contacted their
blacktopping contractor to come back and make this paved alley 12 feet
wide instead of 10 feet.
