Roll Call - All Ayes. New Council members are seated and meeting called to order. Roll Call - King, McCline, Chies, Orendorf, Armstrong. Motion by King seconded by Chies, that Eva Pritchard be appointed Secretary of the City CoSncil. Roll Call - All Ayes. Motion by Chies seconded by McCline, that regular council meetings be held on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month at 8 p.m. Roll Call - All Ayes. Motion by McCline seconded by Chies, that Robert King be appointed City Council president. Roll Call - All Ayes. Hearing was held on blacktopping alley between Central and VanBuren from 39th to 40th Avenues. Motion by Chies seconded by King, that the City Manager be .authorized to proceed with the blacktopping of alley between Central and VanBuren, from ~~ 40th Avenue to the south line of Lot 14. Roll Call - Ell Ayes. Hearing held on Sewer and Water extensions on Pierce Street 46thto 47th. Motion by King seconded by Orendorf, that the City Manager be authorized to proceed with this installation, and that the assessments be paid on a one year basis. Roll Call - All Ayes. Hearing held on replacement of sidewalk on VanBuren Street between 39th and 40th. ~ Motion by King seconded by Orendorf, that this request be tabled. Roll Call - Ail Ayes. Hearing held on Blacktopping 43rd Avenue east from Central as re- commended by the City Engineer. Several residents protested this improvement. Motion by Chies seconded by McCline, that this request be denied. Roll Call 9 All Ayes. First reading of Ordinance No.460, rezoning to Multiple Dwelling Lots 19,20,21,22, Block 2, Sheffield's 2nd Subdivision. (East side Tyler 46-47) First reading of Ordinance No.461, rezoning to multiple dwelling Lots 21 and 22, Block 12, Roslyn Park Addition. (5025 Univ.) A letter was received from Mr.& Mrs. Tabaka, 4206-VanBuren S%.N.E. asking the City to re-consider the installation of sidewalk on Van Buren Street 42-43, which was approved at the last Council meeting. They were informed that a Petition against this installation would have to be presented showing what percentag, e of the owners were not in favor of this sidewalk. An offer of $12,000.00 was received from C.H. b~ller, to purchase City owned lot at 41st and 4th Street. The City E~orney recommended that a list be made of lands owned by the City and a determination made if t~ey would be of use to the City, and if not, offer them for sale on a bid basis. Motion by King seconded by Orendorf, that the offer of Mr. b~ller to purchase city owned lot on 41st & 4th Street, be rejected. Roll Call - All Ayes. Motion by McCline seconded by King, that the City Manager be instructed to compile a list of City owned property and submit to the city council. Roll Call - All Ayes. Recess called at 9:35 p.m. Meetin~ called to order at 9:45 p.m. The City Manager reported that the Planning & Zoning Commission would like the City Council to set a hearing date for the Shattuck zoning Plan. Motion by King seconded by McCline, that a Public Hearing be held by the Planning & Zoning Commission Tuesday, August 18th at 8 p.m. and that the City Council be notified of the meeting so that they might attend unofficially. Roll Call - All Ayes. The City Manager reported that the plans and specifications for the new LiDrary Building would be ready the last of this week. ~otion by Chies seconded by Orendorf, that the City Manager be authorized to advertise for bids on a new Library Building, to be opened at the July 27th meeting. Roll Call - All Ayes. The City Council agreed to meet with the Civil Defense Director Tuesday evening, July 14, at 8:30 p.m. and invited the Police Civil Service to attend. The City Engineer reported on several small projects pending as follows: Storm drains from M~dison Street to Monroe on 45½, on M~nroe to 45th Ave., on 45th Avenue to alley east of Monroe and through the alley between Monroe and Quincy to 44th Avenue, thence to Jackson pond, with the Shopping Center and Hilltop area to share in this cost proportionally in con~u junction with curb & gutter and paving of 45th Avenue from Monroe to Central. Sanitary Sewer on Arthur Street between 37th and 41st Avenues. This has been authorized. This would extend to Hollywood Avenue about 160 ~eet south of 37th Avenue. Watermain extension along back lot line between Tyler Street and Arthur Place. 6" water line from Johnson to Polk Street on 40th Avenue, thence a 10' line to the alley between Polk and Tyler Streets and down alley to 39th; thence a 6" line from 39th to 37th in alley. Watermain extension on 4th Street from 46-1/3 to 47th Avenue. The Storm sewer at 50th and 7th Street as necessary to proceed with the concrete and bituminous programs this year. Sewer and water on Washington Street from 53rd to Sullivan Drive to 7th Street, a d in Mark Jones Addition, on 50th & 50% Avenues from Monroe east to Da~e Street. Motion by Chies seconded by McCline, that the City Manager be authorized to advertise for bids on these projects requested by the City Engineer. Roll Call - All Ayes. Motion by King seconded by Orendorf, that Bianconi Construction Co. be paid the sum of 814,539.70 out of the proper funds. Roll Call-All Ayes. Motion by Chies seconded by King, that G.M. Allen Co. be paid the sum of 8990.00 for removal of stumps. Roll Call - All Ayes. Motion by King seconded by Chies, that Randall Bros. be paid the sum of $3,535.23 out of the proper funds. Roll Call - All Ayes. Motion by King seconded by McCline, that the City Manager be authorized to advertise for bids on a side dump Loader according to specifications. Roll Call - King, McCline, Orendorf,Armstrong - Aye. Chies - Naye. Motion by King seconded by Chies, that S.C. Smiley &Associates be paid the s~m of 81,288.88 and Ridgway Construction Co. the sum ~f 832,010.70, out of the proper funds. Roll Call ~ Ail Ayes. A Peti.tion was received asking the City Council and Park Board to fill in the drainage ditch that runs east and west at the south end of the athletic field as it is a hazard and eye sore. It was pointed out that this could not be done until a storm sewer was installed to take its place. Motion by King seconded by McCline, that this petition be placed on file. Roll Call - All Ayes. Motion by Chies seconded by King, -that Joe Orendorf be appointed to the unexpired term of Bob Proft as council representative on the Recreation Commission. Roll Call - All Ayes. .
