A discussion was held regarding write-ins and it we, s agreed that they
should be listed on the res~>lution regardless of the number of ballots
cast for them, unless it is determined to be unnecessary by the City
Attorney in accordance with the governing laws.

Motion by Chies seconded by Proft, that these bids be turned over to
the City Manager for tabulation. Roll Call - All Ayes.
Consideration of bids on Park & Recreation Building.
Motion by Julkowski seconded by King, that Northland Constructors,
Inc. be awarded the bid on this building for $12,390.00, and if any
monies are short to be taken out of the Liquor Fund and repaid from
next year's budget. Roll Call - All Ayes.
A Hearing was held on Sanitary Sewer for Arthur Street 42nd to 43rd.
The City Manager reported that he and the City Engineer had mat with
the Minneapolis Sewer department and they had agreed that we could
possibly connect to their sanitary sewer on the east side of town
at Tyler or Fillmore. Ww could reasonably work 6n it from this angle
now and come up with a concrete proposal possibly for next spring con-
struction.
Motion by Chies seconded by King, that this hearing be continued
until June 9th. Roll Call - All Ayes.
A Hearing was held on Concrete Curb & Gutter for 2nd Street between
39th & 40th.
Motion by King seconded by Chies, authorizing the City Manager to
proceed with this work either in 1959 or 1960, as the engineer sees
fit. Roll Call - All Ayes.
A Petition was received for Sidewalk on VanBuren between 42nd & 43rd.
Motion by Proft seconded by King, that a hearing be held on this
improvement on June 9th, Roll Call - All Ayes.
A Petition was received for Curb & Gutter and Blacktop Street on 4th
Street between 45th & 46th.
Motion by Chies seconded by Julkowski, that a hearing be held on this
improvement June 9th. Roll Call - All Ayes.
A letter was received from the Fire Chief, asking permission to start
a new man on June 14th instead of July 1st, as Mr. sharer is on sick
leave without pay from May 16th, and will not return to work for 5 ox 6
weeks.
Motion by King seconded by Proft, granting this request to appoint
R. Homicke to start on June 14,1959. Roll Call - All Ayes.
A letter was received from the Fire Department, asking for authorization
of five firemen to attend the Minnesota State Firemen Convention at
Detroit Lakes, June 7,8,9,10,1959.

The citY'Attorney reported regarding the curb opening at the A & W Stand
at 40th & 6th St., stating he had checked with Minneapolis and they do
not have any ordinance covering curb openings, and asked that this matter
be continued for further study.

to draw up a resolution for the purchase of Lot 15,Block 4,Reservoir
Hills at $3,625.00, for street right-of-way. Roll Call - All Ayes.
Motion by King seconded by Proft, that City employees be given Friday
May 29th, as the Memorial Holiday. Roll Call - All-Ayes.
Motion by Proft seconded by King, that the City Manager be authorized
to advertise a hearing on June 9th, for Assessment Roll No.381, alley

Motion by Julkowsi seconded by Chies, that Chet Herringer be re-appointed
to the Merit Commission for five years. Roll Call - All Ayes.
Motion by Chies seconded by Proft, that Ray Sibinski be appointed
to the Planning & Zoning Commission for a four year term. Roll Call -
All Ayes.
Motion by Julkowski seconded by King, that Ray Nelson be appointed to
th4 Fire Civil Service Commission for three years. Roll Call - All Ayes.
The Mayor appointed Edgar Verplank to the Police Civil Service
Commission., for three years.
Motion by Chies seconded by Proft, confirming the appointment of
Edgar Verplank to the Police Civil Service Commission. Roll Call -

Motion by King seconded by Julkowski, that Malcolm O. Watson be re-
appointed to the Band Board for a period of three years. Roll

to fill the unexpired term of Lee Griffin, to the Band Board.

A request was received from the Activities Committee to block off an
area of the street in front of and adjacent to the Field House for
the purpose of dancing in the street, on Saturday June 20th at 9 p.m.
Motion by King seconded by Chies, granting this request. Roll Call -

Petition received for sewer and water on west side of Central between
49th & 50th, and willing to give easements if necessary.
Motion by Julkowski seconded by King, authorizing the City Manager to
advertise a hearing on this installation, June 9th. Roll Call - All Ayes.

granted to Zahler Plbg. Co. subject to approval of plumbing inspector.
