HomeMy WebLinkAboutJun 5, 1945OFFICIAL PROCEEDINGS Special Meeting Jtme 5th,-1945 A special meeting of the Council was held for the purpose of deciding question of 40hr. week for street crew and raise of pay for 4th utility man - also to consider wages and hours of other City employees. The meeting was called to order at 8:20 P. M. All members present. Motion-by Bentzen, seconded by Jackson, that the petition to grade Peter's Place be turn- ed over to the City Manager for checking and cost estimate and that he report back to Council in the matter as'soon as possible. Roll Call - All ayes. Motionby Nygaard, seconded by Jackson~ that the reeuest to transfer the gas station license to operate a gas station at 554 - 40th Ave. N. E. from A. H. Sotebeer to A. E. Arney be granted. Roll Call - All ayes. Notice'.of bids read for painting of municipal buildings. submitted. City Manager reoorted no bids ~otion by Jackson, seconded by i~ygaard, that the ~tter of painting municioal buildings be held over until bids .are received and then left to the discretion of the City Manager. Roll Call - All ayes. ~ City Manager submitted a reoort received of E. J. Jansen's violation of the Zoning Ordin- ance in regards to construction of buildings and acquisition of land for non-conforming use. Motion by Spek~lant, seconded by Jackson, that the matter of Jansen's v~olation be turned over to the City Manager to act according to Charter. Roll Call - All ayes. ~aestion of 40 hr. week for street crew and raise of pay for 4th utility man discussed. Council oroposed that various department employees receive every other Saturday off beginning July 1st through December 31st and that Police Department be given same con- sideration in extra pay. Council reeuested that employees consider the proposal smd that department heads report at next regular meeting. Motion by Jackson, seconded by Nygaard, tlmt the letter from the Police Civil Service Con~ission recommending that Arthur Porter be placed on the Police force as a regular patrolman be placed on file. Roll Call - All ayes. Mayor Bassett reported to the Council that he had been advised that Mr. Porter had tendered his resignation to the Civil Service Commission. Chief Cottrell proposed immediate action on the e~estion of conflict of Youth Center activities with the existing City Ordinances.
