The meeting was called to order at 8:30 P. M. All members nresent. Minutes of the
previous meeting read and aooroved with following corrections noted: that motion
reading 'seconded by Bassett' be changed to read 'seconded by Bentzen' and that the
resolution regarding the setting of charges for sewer rentals be incornorated in the
minutes.
Mr. Johnson, State Labor Oonciliator, and Mr. Nehotte, representative of 544, Truck
Drivers' Union, anpeared before the Council in regards to raise in pay for utility
men. Discussion followed. ~go44 to be advised of the Council's decision in the matter
within two weeks.
Mr. Nordin and a/~'~e~'u~ervisor, renresentatives of American Farmers' Mutual and
John Seman of Bituminous Casualty Co. aooeared to further discuss Workmen's Comoensa-
tion insurance. Discussion. Motion by Ben~$n, seconded by Jackson, that City
Manager be instructed to advertise for bids~ch insurance, bids to be called in by
January 25th, 1944. Roll Call - All ayes.
Motion by Jackson, seconded by Nygaard, that the communication from the Columbia
Heights Fire Den't. regarding the blowing of the curfew siren be placed on file.
Call - All ayes.
Roll
Resolution offered by Spekulant, seconded by Nygaard. Be it hereby resolved that
the City Treasurer be and she is hereby authorized to transfer the sum of $1000.00
from the Poor Fund to the Police and Court Fund; and that there are sufficient moneys
in excess at the end of the fiscal year in said Fund to make such transfer; and that
such transfer is in accordance with existing City Charter. Roll Call - All ayes.
J. F. Geronsin anneared to nrotest what he considered over-charge of assessment on
sidewalk project on Forty-first Ave. Motion by Bentzen, seconded by Jackson, that
City Nan~ger be instructed to check measurements and amount of levy on said oroJect,
with reference to that portion between Fifth and ~ixth streets, and report findings
at next meeting.' Roll Call - All ayes.
Chief Cottrell read the Police Report for 1943. Motion by Spekulant, seconded by
Jackson, that renort be olaced on file. Roll Call - All ayes.
Resolution'offered by Jackson, seconded by Bentzen. Be It Hereby Resolved by the
City Council of the City of Columbia Heights, that the Columbia Heights State Bank
be designated as an official denository of funds for the City of Columbia Heights
for a oeriod of one year co~nencing on the 1st day of January, 1944 and that said
Columbia Heights ~tateBank shall furnish to the City of Columbia Heights such
bonds or collateral for security of moneys deposited there as required by Mason's
Minnesota Statutes Vol. 3 Section 1973-1 and laws amendatory thereto. Roll Call -
All ayes.
Motion by Nygaard, seconded by Spekulant, that the collateral offered by the First
National B~nk.~!~ Minneanolis be accented, subject to the annroval of the City
Attorney. ~All - All ayes.
Motion by Jackson, seconded by Nygaard, that the $45,000.00 in War Bond Securities
offered as collateral by the Co~u~bia.~eiEhts State Bank be accented subject to
the anproval of the City Attorney, ~u~e balance of securities in FHA loans be
returned to said bank. Roll Call - All ayes.
Fire Marshall's report for 194~ given. Motion by Bentzen, seconded by Nygaard, that
said report be placed on file. Roll Call - All ayes.
Notion byNygaard, seconded by Bentzen, that tke communication from the Columbia
Heights Fire Dep't. statingthe officers elected to serve in 1944be placed on file.

Fire Department Report for 1943 read. Motion by Bentzen, seconded by Jackson, that
said report be olaced'on file. Roll Call - All ayes.
Motion by Bentzen, seconded by Nygaard, that the communication from the League of
Minnesota Municipalities outlining a 4-day Minnesota Community Planning Institute to
be held at %he Lowry Hotel, Jan 25th to 28th, be placed on file. Roll Call - All'ayes.
