August 24, 1945
Regular meeting of the City Council of the City ~ Columbia. Heights was called to
order at 8:20 P.M. with all members present. The minutes of the last meeting were
read and aporoved.
Motion by Spe!rmlant seconded by Bentzen that the resignation of Lucil!e Hammon~ as -
Secretary to the City Council be acce~ted. Roll Call - all ayes.
Motion by $oeku!~nt seconded by Jackson that Dorothe Holm be a~oointed as new secretary
to the Council. Roll Call - all ayes
NOtion by Bentzen seconded by Jackson that apolication of Axel Peterson for a on and off
sale beer licence, cigarette licence, and restaurant !icence at 547 - 4Othave t~e the
regular course and that licences held by Oscar Ohal~mrs for the sa~ne address be cancelled.
Roll Call -- all ayes.
Motion by Jackson, seconded by Nygaard that aoolica.tion of Curtis Doemel for on and off
sale beer licence, and restaurant license at 800 - 40th Ave. take the regular course.
Roll Call.-- all ayes.
Motion by Nygaard seconded by J~ckson to grant Albert E. Evans and Mrs. Bertha Evans
licence to sell cigarettes and hoperate a hamburger ~hop at 914 - 40th Ave. Roll Call-
all ayes.~
Motion by Bentzen seconded by ~Tygaard to cancel check No. 1421 in the amount of 75.05
issued to Colmmbia Heights Record and to issue new check. Roll Call - all ~yes.
Motion by Nygaard seconded by Jackson to grant off sale beer licence and cigarette
licence to Columbia Heights Pharmacy, Alfred Naegele and ~aldo E~sardson, at 427 - '_-!0th
Ave. Roll C~ll - all ayes.
Resolution offered by Jackson seconded by Nygaard that regular city employees who a.re
drafted into or enlist in the armed forces shall on his honorable discharge therefrom
be granted the right to return to his former emoloyment with full rights and orivileges
and status the salem as if his emoloyment had been continuous. Roll Call - all
Motion by Jackson-seconded by $oekulant that Mr. Edgar Scott's claim for damages to
his automobile' be refused on the grounds that the accident was due to no negligence
on the part of the City. Roll Call -- all ayes
Motion by Bentzen seconded by $oe~lant ~hat on~,~City Attorney be authorized to

obtain a release from Mrs. Stella Rozycki in consideration of the amount of 00'
to cover her claim for d~mages because of injuries received from a fall into a
broken catch-basin at 43rd and Central Ave. on Febrz~ry 8, 1943. Roll Call - all ayes
Motion by Jackson seconded by Nygaard to allow bills out of thair orooer f'~nds. Roll

City Manager is to state the t the Council is in favor of regional meetings and

to hire a full tiH~ firez~n and mechanic and that he be oaid the smu of $~10 Der
month. Rol~ Call - all ayes.
Motion by Jackson seconded by S'oekulant to grant oermission to City Manager to
attend convention of City t,lanagers at Chicago st,rting Seot. 10, 1943 ~nd that he
be granted the s~me of $75.00 to cover exoenses. Roll Call - all ayes.
