Motion by Zentzen, seconded by Jacksonz to accept the following collateral
offered by the Columbia Heights State Bank as follows, subject to the
approval of the City Clerk and City Attorney. Roll call - Ail ayes.

Resolution offered by Jackson, seconded by Spekulant - THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF COL~I~ HEIGHTS HEREBY RESOLVES: That the City Treasurer
be and she hereby is authorized to release securities furnished by au-
thorized depositories when the deposits of the City monies in such de-
positery is less than the deposits in such depository; but only to such
an extent that the remaining securities ~Emx when furnished by such de-
pository shall be in such amount as is required'by law. Roll call -
All ayes.
Motion by Bentzen, seconded by Jackson, that Belle B. Good's Trailer
Park between 45th & 46th on Central be granted permission to connect
to the water main, subject to City ~nager's instructions. Roll call
all ayes.
Resolution offered by ~entzen, seconded by Jackson: THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE. CITY OF COL~IA HEIGHTS HEREBY RESOLVES: ~EREAS, vacancies
have ceased to exist in the City of Columbia Heights and the metropolitan
areas of Minneapolis and St. Paul; and, V~EREAS, there is a shortage of
building materials already apparent in some essential items in this total
metropolitan area; and WHEREAS, becamse of Defense activities already es-
tablished, such as the Northern Pump Company engaged in filling contracts
for the ~avy Department and the commencement of a tremendous ammunition
plant in this area, there has resulted a necessary influx of labor to
properly carry on these defense activities and these laborers are in dire
need of housing facilities in this area; and, ~EREAS an acute shortage
of housing has therefor developed which will impede and intenfere with
~ational Defense activities in this area, which activities have been
steadily increasing in volume and number these past months, NOW THEREFOR?
BE IT RESOLVED, That Charles F. Palmer, Coordinator of Defense Housing
and E. R. Stettinius, Jr. Director of Priorities, be and they hereby are
respectfully requested to wait upon the President of the United States
for the purpose of declaring the metropolitan area of Columbia Heights,
Minneapolis and St. Paul as a Defense Area in order that said area may
have the advantage of ~riorities on necessary building materials., so
that proper housing fa~ilities may be available; and, that National De-
fense activities there by will be neither impeded nor interefered with,
through lack of proper housing facilities in said. area. Roll call -

Motion by Bentzen, seconded by Jackson, that the foregoing resolution
be forwarded with a letter to the Congressmen and Senators from
Ninnesota. Roll call - All ayes.

request of the Zoning Commission.
Motion by Jackson, seconded by Ben~tzen, that the General Electric Co.
be granted permission to erect two poles in alley south of Edgemoor
Place between 2nd and 2~ St. Roll call - All ayes.
Motion by Bentzen, seconded by Spekulant that the Mpls. Gen. Elec. Co.
be granted permission to erect one pole on 40th & Central. Roll call -
All ayes.
~otion by Jackson, seconded by Bentzen,. that the N. W. Bell Tel. be
granted permi.ssion to replace two poles belonging to Mpls. Gen. Elec.
moved east to new alley line in block bound by Van Buren & 40th & 41st.

Notion by Jackson, seconded by Bentzen, that the letter from J. J. Layden
asking the Council not to take action on a prsvious letter asking for
revocation of his licenses, be placed on file. Roll call - All ayes.

for revocation of o~f and on sale licenses for 500 - 40th AVe. be granted

Motion by Spekulant, seconded by Nygaard, that request of Helen ~.~hhalow
for restaurant, on and off sale' licenses~for 800 - 40th Ave.. be granted.

1st reading of ordinance #~_~ Being an ordinance to amend ordinance #iV1
being an ordinance for the purpose of promoting health, safety, order
and regulating the use of la~ t~loca{~hnd the use of buildings and
the arrangement of building$'~nd the density of population in the City
of Columbia Heights.

OF T~ CITY OF COL~,~BIA EEIGHTS HEREBY RESOLVES: That from and after the
passage of this resolution, men on the extra list of the police department
whe.n called for service shall receive as compensation and hourly compen-
sation computed on the base pay for regular officers, of ~140. per month
of S6 days of 8 hours bach. Roll call - All ayes.
Eotion by Jackson, seconded by Spekulant to pay the following bills
except the bill for Louis Brouillard for the new police car as there
is more work to be done on same.
