HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 77-37RESOLUTION #77- 37 ENDORSING CHAPTER 374 OF THE MIh%~SOTA LAWS OF 1977 P~LATING TO THE CITY OF COLUMBIA HEIGHTS; PROVIDING FOR POLICE DEPART.~ENT RELIEF ASSOCIATION; M]L%BERSHIP THEREIN; BENEFITS ;~ND CONTRIBbTIONS; MEmbERSHIP OF CERTAIN POLICE PERSONNEL IN TU_E PUBLIC Eb~LOYEES' POLICE AND FIRE FI/ND; PROVIDING FOR ADMINISTRATION AND BENEFITS OF TILE COLUMBIA HEIGHTS FIRE>~N'S RELIEF ASSOCIATION; AMEIfDING LAWS 1975, CHAPTER 424, SECTION 9; tLEPEALINGLAWS 1965, CH3dPTER 605, SECTION 6; AND LAWS 1975, CHAPTER 424, SECTION 3. BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CiTY OF COLUMBIA HEIGHTS~ that WHEREAS, a mutually acceptable bill relating to the Columbia Heights Police Department, retired Columbia Heights police officers, Public Employees Retirement Association, paid firemen and volunteer firemen was prepared in a cooperative effort between the aforementioned parties and the City Council representatives, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council hereby approves the Act known as House File #411, being the bill passed by the House and Senate of the 1977 Minnesota Legislature and signed by the Governor on June 2, 1977. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Council does recognize that the basic changes to ~the former laws relate to the following matters: increasing individual police officer's contribution to the Columbia Heights Police Relief Association pension fund, providing for the administration of the Columbia Heights Police Relief Association and the Cc!umbia Heights Fire Department Relief Association, setting disability, service pension and survi%~or benefits for members of the Columbia Heights Police Relief Association, setting service pension benefits for volunteer members of the Columbia Heights Fire Department and authorizing the City Council to set disability and survivor benefits for volunteer members of the fire department, directing the City Council to be the board of trustees of the Columbia Heights Fire De- partment volunteer division pension fund, providing a method of n~ing a board of trustees in the future for the paid division of the Columbia Heights Fire Department Relief Association and the Columbia Heights Police Relief Association and requiring that police officers hired on or after June 15, 1972 become members of the Public Employees Relief Association, and providing certain other changes relating to the police and fire department pension plans.
