HENTGES, COUNCILMAN "SERVICE IS OUR BUSINESS" RESOLUTi01'4 70-5~ AUTHORIZiI4G THE PREPARATIOH AI,~D SUS~'..1SSI014 OF AN AFPLIOATIOH FOR FEDERFL ASSISTAI!C.E Uf~DER P?.0VISIONS OF THE LOCAL PUBLIC WORKS CAPITAL DEVELOPHEHT Af4D tRVESTHENT PROGRAH WHEREAS, the Local Public Works Capita] Development an¢ Investment Act of 1~76 was enacted by Congress to provide ~employment oppor'tunities~ in areas of high unemployn'~ent through the expeditious construction OF removation of useful public facilities, and WHEREAS, the City Council of Columbia Heights, Hinnesota has reviewed the employment needs of the citizens in the area as they relate to provisions of said act, findiF, 9 that high unemployment does exist, especially in the construction trades, and WHEREAS, the City Council has further determined that need exists to renovate and expand the Municipal Safety ~ui]din9 and Admin[stration Offices to better provide the citizens of the community and county, with police~ fire, and administrative service, and WHEREAS, an :application for Federai assistance under provisions of Title ! of the Local Public Works Capital Development and Investment Act of 1976, has beer,, prepared and reviewed by the Council, and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that said application, if successful, will create short and long range employment opportunities and provide the citizens of the community and county with expanded police, fire and administrative service, and NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL of the City of Columbia Heights, Minnesota that: I. The Hayor be authorized to sign and transmit copies of an application for Federal assistance to the Economic Development Administracion for the renov&tion and expansion of the existing Hur',icipal Public Safety Building and Administrative Offices. 2. The City Planner/HRA Director be instructed to periodically report to the City Council on the status of said application and represent the City in matters related to the content therein.
