R E S O. L U T I O N
RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE ADOPTION OF SENATE
FILE 588 AND HOUSE FILE 655 INCREASING THE
LENGTH OF TRUCKS PERMITTED ON FOUR LANE HIGH'vlAYS.
WHEREAS, efficiency in transportation is vita] to the economy of the
State of Hinnesota, and
WHEREAS, Minnesota truck length laws are substantially more restrictive
than the laws of the majority of other states, and
WHEREAS, these variations affect efficiency in operations and result in
increased transportation costs thereby putting Minnesota industry at
a competitive disadvantage; and
WHEREAS, the business and commercial economy of Columbia Heights is
highly dependent upon efficient and economical truck transportation,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Columbia
Heights as follows:
l. The City Council endorses and supports Senate File 588 and House File
655 which, when adopted, would authorize 65 foot combinations of
truck-trailer~ semi-trailer, and trailer to operate on four lane
highways in the State of Minnesota.
2. The representatives of the people of Columbia Heights are herewith
called upon to support and work for the adoption of this legislation
and the Clerk is hereby directed to transmit copies of this resolution
to the aforementioned representatives, the Chairman of the appropriate
legislative committees, and to the Governor of the State of Minnesota.

AS YOU WELL KNOW~ MINESOTA IS THE VICTIM OF HIGH FREIGHT RATES DUE TO
OUR GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION AND WITH CONSIDERABLE INDUSTRY IN THIS STATE
pRODUCING GOODS THAT ARE LIGHTWEIGHT AND BULKY~ THE FREIGHT RATES THAT
ARE APPLICABLE CAN pLACE US AT A DISADVANTAGE wITH OTHER PARTS OF THE
COUNTRY.
COMMUNITIES IN MINNESOTA MuST BE ABLE TO REACH THE MARKETS ON BOTH THE
EAST AND WEST COASTS AND VICE--VERSA AND THIS FORM OF TRANSPORTATION IN
ADDITION TO pRESENT METHODS ARE VITALLY NEEpED.
