HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 71-05R E S 0 L U T I O N ESTABLISHING SPECIAL GARBAGE AND RUBBISH PICK-up RATES AND SPECIAL MINIMUM WATER AND SEWER RATES FOR LOW INCOME SENIOR CITIZENS. BE 1T HEREBY RESOLVEO by the City Council of the City of Columbia Heights that, WHEREAS, it has been determined that a practical hardship exists for certain low income senior citizens in our community to finance the expanded garbage and rubbish pick-up service and the new rate adjustments from the Metropolitan Sewer Board on sewage disposal charges and water rate increases from the Minneapolis Water Department; NOW, THEREFORE, the following procedure shall be instituted in respect to utility charges to said senior citizens: Upon request from a senior citizen over 62 years of age having an annual income of less than $3,000 per year, a form shall be sent out requesting certain basic information such as age, age of spouse, others in household, and total annual income of household. o The completed form, signed by the senior citizen, shall be checked by the City Administrative Offices as to qualifications and completeness of data. Senior citizens with a household income of less than $3,000 per year shall have the following rates on utilities: Garbage Sewer Service Minimum water rate $1.00 per month 2.00 per month 1.OO per month $3.00 per quarter 6.00 per quarter 3.00 per quarter The,'~e rates are in lieu of the standard rates of: Garbage Sewer Service Minimum water rate $2.25 per month 2.75 per month 1.30 per month $6.75 per quarter 8.25 per quarter 3.90 per quarter These rates shall become effective beginning April 1, 1971 and thereafter on the next regular billing date following receipt of completed forms from qualifying senior citizens. In order to keep alt records up to date, it will be necessary for these forms to be renewed annually beginning on or before December 1, 1971 and each December t, thereafter.
