HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 70-33RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE METROPOLITAN TRANSIT :COMMISSION TO REMOVE THE ARBITRARY ADDITIONAL ZONE FARE IMPOSED ON PATRONS ARRIVING OR DEPARTING FROM LOCATIONS IN THE CITY OF COLUMBIA HEIGHTS AND TO RE-INSTATE THE FARE STRUCTURE VHICH PLACED SUCH PATRONS ON AN E~UAL BASIS WITH PATRONS ORIGINATING AND TERMINATING THEIR TRIPS IN MINNEAPOLIS. BE tT tiEREBY RESOLVED by the Cl~ty Council of the City of Columbla Heights that WHEREAS, the City of Columbia Heights has been In the process of appealing thrush the Courts the arbitrary rate differential of 10¢ above the Mlnneapolls fare based on political subdivision boundaries and not on actual cost factors, as established by the Mlnnesota State Public Service Commission, and WHEREAS, the Publlc Service Commission has required Twin City Lines to bring forth a new zone fare structure system by a given d~te, but had allowed that date to pass without requiring said new zone fare struca~re because of the impending tai~kover of the Transit system by the ;4etropolltan Transit Commission, and WHEREAS the Metropolitan Transit Commission has now taken over the Twin City Translty system, Including the rate making functions, and WHEREAS, the Metropolltan Transit Commission studies have shown the present zone far~ to be unfa~e, and WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Transit Commission is spending considerable sums of public money to subsidize public transit for other certain parts of this metropolitan area, and ¥IHEREAS, th~ two route~ serving Columbia Heights, #lO Grand-Central, and #18 2nd Street N.E.- Monroe are two o~ ~he most profitable lines tn the ~yst3m, and WHEREAS, the northern most boundary of Columbia Heights is closer to the downtown loop area of Hinneapoll~ than the southern mos~ boundaries of HInneapolls ~hlch only pay a base fare, NOW~ THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Columbia Heights that, based on the above clrcum~tences, the Metropolitan Transit Commission is hereby petlt}oned to tmr.~ediately el~alnate the zone fare rate differential fro~] patrons.originating or terminating their rlde In Columbla Heights. - 2 - BE IT FURTHER i[F.
