Upon motion au~y made the following resolution is ~aopted ata
Special meeting of the City Council of'the City of Columbia Heights,
~innesota, this l?th, day of January A.D. 1935, by the recorde~vote

Whereas there is now pending adoption before the Congress of the
United States, certain social legislation, con~nonly knowr~ as the
Tom'~send Pension Plan smd designed as a measure to eliminate a large
.part of otu. economic difficulties, and
V~nereas, such legislation proposes as a means in trust to pay
to all Citizens of the United States over the age of Sixty the sum of
two hm~dred dollars each calend~r month, ,uhose life has been free from
crime and who~witl agree to retire from active business or' emplo~ent,
and spending ~ ~ - ~ thirty days of the receipt cf the same-with
in the confines off ti~e Tynited States~. acting as a medium by ,~.ch un-
employment will be eliminated, buying power increased an~ -~reatly stim
ulating business generally over the entire Countrv~ said disbursing
fur. ds to be raised by a general sales tax, and
Whereas Public sentiment, from all indications, w~t~,~n this c~ty
is over-whelm~ngly in favor of the proposed legislation, various delega
tions urging its adoption and this memorial resolution.
THEREFOP~E BE IT RESOLI~D BY THE COUt{CiL OF T~ CiTY OF COLWiBIA
HEIGHTS} MINNESOTA, that we urge support to and immediate adoption of
the proposed Pension plan, requesting that no aid or support be given
to any substitute, not an improvment to the Toad. send Theory and that
we urge the People of Coluz~bia Heishts to reject an~ member in Congress
from ~innesota ~vit~in, their -' ' ~
~urismic~ion,who shall refuse aid ~and their.
co-operation to do everything within their power to secure the passage
of the proposed legislation at this session of Congress and,
