RESOLUTION NO. 82-73
RESOLUTION SUPPORTING NUCLEAR WEAPONS FREEZE NEGOTIATIONS
WHEREAS, we view the continuous build-up of nuclear weapons with great elarm;
and
WHEREAS, we are concerned that such a build-up makes nuclear war or accidental
explosion more likely; and
WHEREAS, we further recognize that the citizens of our community, our country,
and the entire world, suffer great physical, economic, social and psy-
chological harm ~f a nuclear attack were to occur anywhere in the world;
and
WHEREAS, we believe that a halt in the testing, productions and deployment of
nuclear weapons would reduce the danger of nuclear accident or nuclear
war, and woutd be a first step towards disarmament.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Columbia Heights
urge the Government of the United States to DroDo~m tO the Governmmnt mf tNm
Soviet Union that both countries agree to immedlately halt the testing,
production, and further deployment of all nuclear weapons in a way that can
be checked and verified by both sides.
