HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 61-16BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED by the City ~uncil of the City of
Columbia Heights that:
WHEREAS, it has become apparent that the proposed plans for
expansion of the airport at Blaine in Anoka County is of such
a magnatude as to affect the City of Columbia Heights, and
'WHEREAS, the flight patterns for large aircraft such as ~ould
be utilizing the long north-south runway would on take-offs and
approaches be flying at low elevations over the densely popu-
lated sections of our community as shown by the denial of re-
quests for commercial television antennas in Fridley 3ust north
of Ma~haire in Columbia Heights, and in other communities as far
removed from the airport site as North Oakes in Ramsey County, and
WHEREAS, there are areas presently available further north in
the County where intelligent perimeter planning will retain the
lands around the landing strips for agricultural purposes
thereby avoiding the elevation of structure limitations set forth
by all airport planners and avoid the dangerous encroachment of
residences or tall factories in the take-off and approach zones.
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED BY THE City Council of the City of
Columbia Heights, that in the interest of public safety, that the
Metropolitan Airports Commission seriously consider the possibility
of an alternate plan in lieu of the present airport expansion plan
before a final decision is reached.
