HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 90-26 RESOLUTION 90 - 26 BEING A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE APPLICATION OF THE CITY OF MINNEAPOLIS REGARDING THE STUDY OF THE UPPER }iiSSISSIPPI RIVER WHEREAS: The Mississippi River is the primary source of water for approximately 900,000 people in the Twin · Cities Metropolitan Area; and WHEREAS: The Metropolitan Council in recent reports has recommended decreased reliance on ground water and continued utilization of surface water; and WHEREAS: There is currently no comprehensive watershed protection program for the Upper Mississippi; and ~'HEREAS: The City of Minneapolis has submitted an application to the Legislative Commission on Minnesota Resources to determine potential sources of contamination for the Upper Mississippi River, estimate the liklihood of severe contamination incidents, and identify strategies to red~ce the level of risk; and WHEREAS: The City of Columbia Heights is served by the Minneapolis Water Works~ NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OK COLUMBIA HEIGHTS THAT: The City of Columbia Heights endorses the application of the City of Minneapolis to the Legislative Commission on }iinnesota Resources to assess the risk of contamination of the Upper Mississippi River and urges that the project be funded.
