the City of Co!t~nbia Heights that the Board o£ County Commissioners o£
the County o£ Anoke are contemplating the expansion o£ the County Sheri£ft s
department and~
~TEREAS; the expansion o£ this department is necessitated and due to the
£aCt that several villages within said County are reluctant to form s_nd ma~-
rain a police department to handle law enforcement vJithin t.~ir respectiv~
villages and thus creating a heavy responsibility upon the Sher~.~f,s depart-
ment and,
W.~EREAS; the Cities o£ Anoka and Columbia Heights and the Village
of Fridley maintain police departments for t~e preservation o£ law and order
at a great expense to the tax payers of their respective ~ommunities, and
~.~REAS; the Cities o£ Anoka ~md Columbia Heights together with the
Village o£ Fridley have taxable valuations o£ 60~ of the County of Anoka and
are therefore paying in tb~ s~e proportion for the operation o£ the Sheri££,s
department, and
~IEREAS; it is evident £rom the above that the above named munici-
~a!ities are subsidizing law en£orcemen,% in the various villages throughout
the County at a great ex~ense to themselves, therefore be it
.~ESOLVED that ±he City 5ounci~ b£ the Citer o£ Cotmmbia Heights as
representatives o£ their constituents hereby vigorously protest any expansion
o£ the County Sherif£'s department for the purpose o£ extending mnjusti£ied
].aw enforcem$nt to villages within the Cotmty who do not maintain a police
department, and be it £z~ther
RESOLVED, that a copy o£ the above resolution be forwarded to the
Board o£ Cotmty Commissioners for the County o£ Anoka.
