FF~0~i TI~ PERSONAL PROPERTY TAX.
I'~EREAS, the Personal Property tax as pertains to household
goods is generally recognized as being impossible to administer
fairly and impartially ~mong the taxpayers, and the cost of
collection is comparatively high for the amount of revenue produced;
A~,~ I~%BREAS, the personal property tax on household goods is
of relatively small importance in relation to the entire tax structtme,
and in the case of the City of Columbia Heights, the assessed valuation
thereoi' amounts to ].ess than one per cent of the total assessed valuation;
A}~ I~{~EREAS, there are several bills before the State Legislature
at the present time providing for the exemption of said household goods
from personal property tax;
NOW '_.W4EREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of
Columbia Heights, at a regular nmeting this 1st day of ~arch !9~!,
that the local representatives in the State Legislature, be hereby
requested to ~rk for the adoption of a suitable measure, providing for
the exemption of said household goods from future personal property tax.
