HomeMy WebLinkAboutMarch 6, 1999OFFICIAL PROCEEDINGS COLUMBIA HEIGHTS CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING MARCH 6, 1999 1) CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL Mayor Peterson called the Council Meeting to order at 8:00 a.m. Present were Mayor Peterson and Council members Szurek, Jolly, and Wyckoff. Audience attendants were Sue Amundson and Morris Mariette (Mr. Mariette was in attendance part of the meeting). 2) APPOINTMENT OF SECRETARY PRO-TEM Motion by Jolly, second by Szurek, to appoint Mary Dugdale Secretary Pro-tem. All ayes. 3) INTERVIEW OF CANDIDATES The purpose of the special meeting was to interview candidates for appointment to the vacant Council position. The Council interviewed three candidates from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m., allowing 25 minutes for each interview. Council members asked each candidate the same series of six questions. Candidates interviewed were: Gary Larson, Roger Peterson, and Ted Landwehr. 4) RECESS OF MEETING Mayor Peterson recessed the meeting at 9:30 a.m. so the Council could attend the opening of a local Habitat for Humanity home. 5) RECONVENE THE MEETING Mayor Peterson reconvened the meeting at 11:00 a.m., at which time the Council proceeded with the interviews of seven more candidates, asking each the same series of six questions. Candidates interviewed were: Bob Barnick, Barbara Gertsema, Damon Powers, Dolores Strand, Robert Buboltz, Eric Kjos, and John Hunter. 6) ADJOURNMENT Having completed the interviews scheduled for this date, there was a motion by Jolly, second by Wyckoff, to adjourn the Council meeting at 2:30 p.m. All ayes.
