COLUMBIA HEIGHTS CITY COUNCIL
SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING
SEPTEMBER 16, 1998
The Special Council Meeting was called to order at 5:10 p.m. by the Mayor.
1. ROLL CALL
Present were Mayor Sturdevant and Councilmembers Jolly, Ruettimann and Peterson.
2. PRESENTATION OF OPTIONS FOR WORDING ON BALLOT OUESTION
At the July 8, 1998 Council Work Session, there was a discussion regarding placing a question
on the General Election ballot to change the mayoral term from a two year term to a four year
term. The following is the wording of the question as proposed by the City Attorney:
Shall the Columbia Heights City Charter be amended to change the mayoral term from a
two year term to a four year term, with the change being effective January 1, 2000 ?
The request for consideration of this question came from the Columbia Heights Charter
Commission.
3. SELECTION OF WORDING ON BALLOT OUESTION
Motion by Ruettimann, second by Jolly to have the following question placed on the November
3, 1998 General Election ballot: "Shall the Columbia Heights City Charter be amended to change
the mayoral term fi.om a two year term to a four year term, with the change being effective
January 1, 2000 ?" Roll call: All ayes
4. ADJOURNMENT
Motion by Ruettimann, second by Peterson to adjourn the Special Council Meeting at 5:15 p.m.
