COLUMBIA HEIGHTS CITY COUNCIL
SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING
NOVEMBER 16, 1992
The Special Council Meeting was called to order by Mayor Murzyn at
8:18 p.m.
1. ROLL CALL
Nawrocki, Clerkin, Ruettimann, Peterson, Murzyn - present
2. PURPOSE OF SPECIAL MEETING
The purpose of the special meeting was to consider roofing
repairs at John P. Murzyn Hall.
The City Manager explained that when Murzyn Hall was last
roofed, the lower part of the back side of the roof was
covered with a rolled material rather than shingles. The
rolled area is now deteriorating and water has rotted some of
the wood roof sheeting. Staff is recommending this problem be
corrected soon to avoid additional damage to the interior of
the building.
There was discussion regarding the advisability of using
rolled material on this area of the roof rather than shingles.
Councilmember Peterson advised that when the pitch of the roof
is low, it is better to use the rolled material.
The bid specifications, prepared by the Building Inspector,
were sent to several potential bidders and contained two
options. There were three bids received.
Motion by Clerkin, second by Peterson to accept the bid from
Milton Johnson Company to reroof the entire back side of
Murzyn Hall (option 2) according to the specifications and
written bid for $9,200 which includes all materials, labor and
the removal of waste; and furthermore, that the Mayor and City
Manager be authorized to enter into a contract for same. Roll
