This petition is a request to the City of Columbia Heights Mayor
and City Council to proceed with rebuilding/repairing 38th Avenue
from Jefferson Street to 5th Street N.E.
This section of 38th Avenue has been neglected and allowed to
deteriorate because of=
1. Failure by Columbia Heights to enforce a weight restriction on
trucks from the adjacent industrial area (example:Cargill).
2. Pending redevelopment plans for the S.W. corner of Columbia
Heights, making repair of 38th Avenue not feasible.
Since redevelopment plans now DONOT include 38th Avenue, we are
in favor of rebuilding/repairing this street considering the
following conditions are &cceptable~
There must be a cul-de-sac on the West end of 38th Avenue to
eliminate truck traffic.
The street repair must include (as a minimum) cement curbs and
new asphalt.
Columbia heights must be willing to pay for at least 50% of the
COSt.
